I am Ashley! (@iamashley92 to be precise!)

ashleySo here it is my first ever blog !   key the nerves as this goes live..

My name is Ashley, I’m currently in my second year of my BSc in Business Technology at the University of  the West of Scotland. I have been a placement student at NSDesign for two weeks now and its great !  (I’ve not made a single cup of tea yet – these boys have really good manners!)

My degree delivers both business and technical aspects and aims to develop a student who has good all-round technical and business skills and who can therefore be employed in a  technical or business role. As part of my course I had the option to take a module called Work-Related Learning which would allow me to go on placement for eight weeks and have hands on experience of working in industry.  An opportunity I couldn’t pass up – the skills you pick up working in a placement are not just relevant to coursework, or a degree, but to your future career.

In my time here so far I have mainly focused on Social Media as that was a key area I wanted to know more about. Last Friday I attended the brilliant  ‘Embrace The Space Social Media For Business Masterclass’ and safe to say I left with a whole new knowledge base about social media, something I previously thought I knew well!!

I’ve learned about a really useful tool called ‘HootSuite’ which allows you to manage all of your social networks in one place!  Improving productivity and saving time, as well as scheduling Tweets or Facebook posts and finding the right audience to target.

Only two weeks in but I already know I picked the right placement, and they picked me right back! The entire team are a friendly relaxed bunch, with an immense amount of knowledge between them  – even if a large chunk is based on the  BBC Pop Master Quiz !!

I really couldn’t have asked for a better team to do my placement with. I have thoroughly enjoyed my first two weeks and expect my next six to be just as enthralling!  Look out for a few more blog posts from me during my time here!
