Over 2 half-days sessions, participants will learn how to register and setup a domain name, write effective content, source quality stock images, get to grips with the basics of how search engines work, and understand the importance of web accessibility and good design. This will result in the creation of a professional website live on the internet managed by the NSBuilder system.
Session 1 - Research and Training
Comprising a series of “Learning Modules”, participants will gain an understanding (and first hand
experience) of the steps involved in planning and implementing a new website.

Getting Started
Choosing a suitable domain name is vital for your business website and email. This primer will show
participants how to make the most of their new hosting account, including how to set up email, and read
web stats. Trainees will research and register 1 domain name.
Search Engine Optimisation
An introduction to Google and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) techniques, both “on” and “off-page”.
Participants will learn the importance of providing quality content, rich with keywords, and how page titles
and other meta-tags influence a website's position within Google and the major search engines.
Understanding Web Accessibility
An accessible website will not only perform better for you, but from a legal point of view – is essential.
Discover why accessibility matters, and the financial implications of ignoring it.
Images and Colour
A picture paints a thousand words, especially on the web where people expect to see them. Participants
will research and visit royalty-free Stock Photography websites and other legal sources of free (or low cost)
graphics and logos. An introduction to image web formats, basic image manipulation and the use of
colour follows.
Selling Online
An introduction to ecommerce and accepting online credit card payment.
Content Management Systems
An introduction to the benefits of using a CMS over traditional content creation and management methods.
Session 2 - NSBuilder - Build your website
Using the bespoke NSBuilder system, participants will create their own website, using the source material
from session One. Tutor led, they will choose and customise a template, create their required pages, add
their content (text and images), define page meta-tags, and setup (if required) 1 or more products to sell
online.
The result will be a professional, accessible and easily maintained website that participants can host on
their included domain name and hosting package.
