Google allows trademark bidding on Adwords [return]
From May 5th, Google will introduce controversial new changes to their Adwords system, allowing anyone to bid on competitor trademarks.
Now Google plans to do what it did in the US four years ago and open up their auction process for the sponsored links space, meaning the highest-ranking, and therefore most commercially valuable spot, will go to the highest bidder, not necessarily the company that owns the trademarked name.
This change is not good for larger companies looking to protect their online brands, allowing anyone to obtain traffic through their protected trademarks, but some argue that smaller companies will benefit from the move.
