Scottish man wins legal case against UK Spammer [return]
An Edinburgh man has won a case brought before the Scottish courts, complaining that emails he received from a UK-based company contravened the UK spam laws.
In a minor breakthrough for the British legal system, the man was awarded damages and legal costs amounting to around £1,300
We cannot stress highly enough, the importance of "opt-in" email campaigns. If someone hasn't explicitly given you their permission to send them email, don't do it. And for those who have given you permission, consider using a dedicated email campaign system to do the mail out.
On another note, Getty Images (the world's leading provider of stock photography) is currently making a big sweep of sites and sending out bills when they find one of their images being used without permission.
They are charging $1,000 USD per image. They are pursuing the site owners for this money. They are not sending out warnings and they (and their lawyers) do expect to get paid. If you have unauthorised Getty images (or indeed any unauthorised copyrighted images), take them down!
