The great “work for free” debate…

Our recent “work for free initiative” has certainly sparked a lively debate among the design community, with the Design Business Association (the DBA) condemning it as ‘damaging to the industry as a whole’. A little harsh perhaps, but they are of course entitled to their opinion.
As are you… and whatever that opinion may be, I’d welcome your thoughts added to the “Design Week” website where they first reported the DBA’s response to our bit of Christmas fun!!

I love this idea – however the response from the DBA makes the industry look weaker than what it truly is.
There is no doubt there is unnecessary competition from a growing number of ‘undercutting hobbyists’ who have grabbed a copy of ‘Dreamweaver for Dummies’ and consider themselves web developers. When you consider this, the “damaging to the industry as a whole” comment is put into perspective. It made me smile!

Great idea & good luck with it. The DBA have done you a favour by “slamming it”. Hope the publicity pays off. Perhaps in the spirit of sharing you could let everyone know the results?

Off course!! We’ll do a wee update after the 19th to summarise the work. We’ve already had a superb response from new and existing clients asking for their Christmas Freebies, so it should be a fun day for the team working through as many as we can!

Andrew.. get your email to us by Monday, and there’s still a chance of your request being selected. We’re planning the workload on Monday afternoon, when we’ll be dividing up the work to the most relevant members of the team etc…. This then still gives us time to get back to the clients to ask any further questions etc.
